"Pathways: The Road to Mentoring"
is a compilation of five studies by five SBC students. It is a suitable handbook written
in an easy-to-read style (through use of anecdotes, case studies, songs, story-telling of
real-life experiences, discussion questions, prayers, reflections, suggested reading
lists, etc.) for Bible Study group members and for individuals interested in one-on-one
mentoring, outreach or missions. This book is a call to journey with
- Andrew who has helped Asian university students before and after
their decision for Christ in a Creative Access Nation (CAN) in the section "Students
Without A Shepherd."
- Ron who has been discipled and motivated by one man to help other
men grow in their faith in Christ in "Man To Man."
- Sal who alerts missionary trainees to seven areas of mission
preparation in "Mentoring Missionaries-In-Training."
- Joan who shares difficulties, joys and challenges of ministry to
slum women and children in a CAN in "Ministry To Slum Women And Children In Third
World Cities."
- Pauline who offers glimpses into the happiness and heartaches of
building bridges cross-culturally in an Asian mega-city, assisting people to connect with
Christ in "Building Bridges Cross-Culturally."
This collection opens our eyes to the happenings
on the mission field in this day and age. It is a heartfelt sharing of lives and
experiences. This is a good read for anyone who would like to gain a greater insight into
reaching others for Christ.
Sally Tee, a former secondary school teacher,
writes about her experience as a co-writer of the book:
"It was a great learning experience. It was
important to have a lecturer, coach or teacher who helped motivate us to look at the final
goal the glory of God and the book being a blessing to those who pick it up and
read it. Also, there was a lot of praying, teamwork and group brainstorming about the
content, editing, proofreading. We all owned this project. Everyone was involved. There
was no emphasis on who was doing more or less. That is also why we are all helping to
promote this book together.
"It was stressful at the point when we had
to decide who was going into print because we all wrote but only five of us went into
print. I was hesitant at first pride, thinking my work was not good enough,
concerned about the extra work involved (editing process). But once I have overcome each
of these hurdles by Gods grace, thought through the issues as calmly as I possibly
could, weighed the pros and cons, I had Gods peace about going ahead. I can place
all consequences of the publication into the Lords hands! It sure feels great to be
able to contribute to the book!"
