Teachers
Christian Fellowship (TCF)
The Teachers Christian Fellowship was started on 2nd
November 1968 by a group of teachers who felt the importance of a continuing witness to
Christ after their graduation.
TIC aims to:
- instil an awareness of the need for a continuing witness in
schools, colleges and other institutions;
- encourage Christians as stewards of God to develop a high standard
of service as professionals in the field of education;
- provide opportunities for fellowship and interaction among
Christians in the teaching service;
- encourage Christians to formulate a biblical perspective towards
educational issues.
Brief History & Activities
The GCF Teachers Committee was formed in 1961. It held
conferences which led to the formation of the Teachers Christian Fellowship in 1968.
The TCF was affiliated to GCF in 1969 but was restructured and came under the Fellowship
of Evangelical Students in 1971. In 1981 TCF rejoined GCF.
The Annual Dedication Service is held at the beginning of each
school year for members of the teaching profession. Its purpose is to commit students,
teachers and school administrators to the Lord.
Occasional workshops and seminars are planned to address the
needs of the teaching profession and to stimulate interaction on common educational
issues. Some issues discussed have been: Pastoral Care and Christian Concepts of
Discipline, Administration and Education.
A ministry to new teachers and those thinking of the teaching
profession is provided through testimonies and publications on teaching. The TCF has
produced a monograph, Called to be a Teacher, and a Bible study guide, "The Beginning
Teacher", for new graduates.
The fellowship has also been actively involved in GCFs book
donation project. TCF also maintains links with and supports the work of teachers in
training in the National Institute of Education Christian Fellowship. |
